This page explains what SeatPlanMaker collects, why, and who else handles it. I run SeatPlanMaker myself, so "I" below means me, the person who builds and supports it.
Free charts stay in your browser
You can make and print a seating chart without signing in. The roster you paste, the seating rules and the chart stay in your browser and are not sent to my server. If you start signing in or checking out, the draft is kept in your browser's session storage so it is still there when you come back.
Your account
You sign in with an emailed link or code, or with Google. There are no passwords. I store:
- your email address and how you signed in
- your name and Google account ID, if you sign in with Google
- your subscription status and the Stripe customer and subscription IDs
When you create an account, I send your email address to People Data Labs, which returns public professional details such as job title, industry and company website. I use this to understand who signs up. New signups and subscription changes are sent to me as private notifications through Telegram.
Saved classes
With Pro, saved classes are stored on my server: the class name, the roster, the desk grid, pinned seats, seating rules, and planning and behavior notes. Rosters usually contain student names, so enter only what your school allows. First names or initials work fine. You can delete a saved class at any time.
Payments
Stripe handles checkout and billing. Your card details go to Stripe, not to me. I receive your subscription status from Stripe. If you leave a checkout unfinished, I may send one reminder email.
Analytics
- Clicky and PostHog record page visits and product actions, such as printing a chart, so I can see what is used. Print events include seat counts, not names.
- PostHog also records some sessions. Text you type is masked, and the roster, chart and notes areas are excluded. Sign-in pages are not recorded.
- I keep anonymous daily counts of which classroom layouts are chosen. They contain no names or account details and are deleted after 90 days.
Email, feedback and logs
Postmark sends sign-in emails and checkout reminders. Open and link tracking are turned off. Feedback you send through the site is emailed to me. My server logs requests, including IP addresses, for security and rate limiting. The site loads its font from Google Fonts and runs on servers rented from Hetzner.
What I don't do
I don't sell your data, and I don't show ads.
Deleting your data
To delete your account and saved classes, email me from the address on your account. Stripe keeps its own billing records as the law requires.
Who SeatPlanMaker is for
SeatPlanMaker is made for teachers and other adults who plan classrooms. Students should not create accounts.
